MEET DETECTIVE JAMIE SHOEMAKER
Detective Jamie Shoemaker is a dedicated law enforcement professional with the Geneseo Police Department, where she has made significant contributions to mental health, crisis intervention, and community support. Starting her career in 2015 with the Rock Island County Sheriff's Office, Jamie quickly earned certification as a Phase 3 hostage negotiator while working as a third-shift deputy. In 2021, she joined the Geneseo Police Department, where she became a certified Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) member and launched the IMPACT (Integrated Model Police and Crisis Team) Program. This initiative provides essential resources for individuals struggling with mental illness, substance use, and crisis situations. Under her leadership, the program has raised over $12,000 to support those in need. The IMPACT program has held an annual conference for first responders in the area for the last three years. The conference educated first responders on available resources for individuals in crisis.
In addition to her work with IMPACT, Detective Shoemaker has played a key role in promoting community well-being through initiatives such as the Dementia Friendly Community certification, in partnership with Dementia Friendly America. She created a Dementia Task Force composed of police officers and residents, helping to provide vital resources for individuals and caregivers. The task force also initiated the first Dementia 5K in 2024, raising funds for dementia-related support, including bracelets for community members. Beyond her work in crisis intervention, Detective Shoemaker is an FBI-certified crisis negotiator, an active board member of the Illinois Crisis Negotiator Association, and a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force.
